Ever considered a career as a horse trainer? This week’s chat is with Lucinda Russell, a hugely accomplished and successful horse trainer based up in Kinross, as you’ll hear Lucinda - and together with her husband Peter Scudamore, an eight time champion jockey who rode 1678 winners in his career - run LRR which trains and prepares national hunt horses. Lucinda has trained over seven hundred winners including nine graded winners and winners at the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals so absolutely top of her game in this space and the chat was fascinating learning what goes into that process, the huge benefits of getting to work with horses and understanding them and what they need, why she says a horse will only race if it wants to, what goes into the training, what happens when a horse can’t race, and of course what she believes are the attributes you need to work in this space.
